About the Project
This project brings together several areas of repair across the house and barn. Failed mortar joints, broken roof tiles, damaged render and deteriorating paintwork all needed attention.
Our work includes repointing sections of the walls and chimneys, repairing and repainting the windows, replacing broken tiles on the main house and renewing the barn roof’s felt and battens before retiling.
The Barn
The original plan for the barn roof was to replace broken tiles and clean the existing covering. On closer inspection, however, we found that the roof was failing beneath the tiles and needed more extensive work.
Replacing the damaged tiles alone would have left those underlying problems in place. The work therefore expanded to include replacement felt and battens before the roof was retiled.

Main Building Repairs and Restoration
Work on the main house covered the roof, brickwork, chimneys, windows and external decoration.
We replaced broken roof tiles and raked out failed mortar from sections of the walls and chimneys before repointing the affected brickwork.
One chimney required rebuilding and render repairs after approximately one square metre of render had fallen away. The missing render was patched, and the rendered side of the house was repainted.
The windows were also sanded back, repaired using resin and repainted. Alongside these repairs, the barn’s damaged paintwork is being repaired and redecorated to create a consistent finish across both buildings.

These photos show the condition of the main building before work began, including failed mortar joints, damaged chimney render and windows in need of repair and repainting. Alongside the broken roof tiles, these were the areas we needed to address as part of the external repairs.
With repairs underway, the team has been repointing the affected brickwork, replacing broken roof tiles and repairing the chimney and damaged render. The windows have also been sanded back, repaired using resin and repainted, while decoration continues to bring the house and barn together with a consistent finish.

The Finished Result
The main building’s repairs are complete, with broken roof tiles replaced, affected brickwork repointed and the chimney rebuilt and patched where needed. The windows have been repaired and repainted, and the refreshed external decoration gives the property a more consistent finish while keeping its original character.
